Dear Sir/ Madam:
We cordially invite you to join us to enjoy the Toronto Turkish Festival. Organized by the Canadian Turkish Friendship Community, the Toronto Turkish Festival invites you to a delightful two days during which you can get a taste of Türkiye! Join us on Saturday and Sunday, August 1st and 2nd 2009, from 10am to 10pm at YONGE &DUNDAS SQUARE, in the heart of downtown Toronto. Funds raised from the festival will be donated to Nil Academy School.
This festival is celebrating Turkish culture through music, exhibits, arts, crafts, dance, shows and fabulous foods. This wonderful event will bring our rich culture and fine cuisine together, from kebabs to mouth-watering pastries. Festival will be alive with the sights, sounds and aromas of Türkiye. This year, festival organizing committee expects international participation from municipalities of Türkiye, besides many exhibitors from Canada. Our festival is open to all public free of charge.
Ottoman Military Band, for the first time in Toronto, will
entertain the visitors with their unique concert.
This Band, which for centuries accompanied the marching Ottoman army into battles, still echoes in that of drum and zurna - an oboe-like woodwind instrument - which is a part of folk culture all over Türkiye. Mehter music was a symbol of sovereignty and independence, and its ardent sounds instilled the soldiers with strength and courage.
This festival is the 4th Turkish festival in Toronto’s history contributing Toronto’s multiculturalism. Our first Turkish festival was organized and held by Canadian Turkish Friendship Community on August 5, 2006 with the participation of 40,000 people, and 80,000 people attended in 2007 and 2008. Now we are expecting an attendance of over 100,000 people this year at the event from all over the GTA . Mr. David Miller, the mayor of Toronto visited the Turkish Festival last two years and congratulated us for joining the City’s Live with Culture project.
Sincerely,
